Dear Prospective Families,
When school begins each fall, it never ceases to amaze me that the summer is just a blur of great memories – SSES camp, 4th of July parade floats, new faculty members, rooms being readied, amazing professional development events, and new students and new families joining the School community. Our school activities get started with a Meet the Teacher event, and we never seem to look back or slow down!
Each year we begin with some traditional activities: an Orientation for New Parent, an Opening Convocation Chapel Service and the commissioning of the Faculty, Staff, and Trustees for their service to the School, and a series of Curriculum Meetings for each class to give parents a brief overview of the curriculum, including Everyday Mathematics, ZooPhonics, Handwriting Without Tears, Words Their Way, RAZ Kids, Spelling City, Memory Map, and Greek and Latin Roots.
On an ongoing basis, the School enhances the 1:1 iPad Program in 3rd – 6th grades and use of iPads in stations for reading, math, and science in PreK3 & 4, Kindergarten, and 1st/2nd Grade. Activities in the Discovery Garden and Outdoor Classroom begin again as the weather cools with preparation of the beds for fall/winter planting.
Special initiatives for this school year will be the continued expansion of the St. Stephen’s Drum Program in music, and new instruction in Coding and Robotics with Lego Mindstorm in Grades 3 – 6. After school Extracurricular classes include offerings such as Choir, Art, Drama, Archery, Soccer & Conditioning, Cross Country, and Tennis.
The many activities of the fall - Sweet Berry Farm trip, Fire Prevention Day, All-School Halloween Party, the Fun Run, St. Stephen’s School Sunday, Book Fair, Grandparents & Special Friends Day, All-School Thanksgiving Lunch, and Trail of Lights – all happen before Christmas! Whew! They will blur as we dive into spring with hatching chicks & butterflies, trips to Bamberger Ranch, the UT San Antonio Archeology Lab, and the Science Mill, Extravaganza fundraiser, Earth Day, and Graduation.
Our students truly work hard and play hard, and our Faculty and Staff join right in! Please come see for yourself – St. Stephen’s Episcopal School will always put out the welcome mat for you!
