Dear Prospective Families,
When school begins each fall, it never ceases to amaze me that the summer is just a blur of great memories – SSES summer camp, 4th of July parade float, new faculty members, rooms being readied, amazing professional development events, and new students and new families joining the School community. Our school activities get started with a Meet the Teacher event, and we never seem to look back or slow down!
Each year we begin with some traditional activities: an Orientation for New Parents, an Opening Convocation Chapel Service and the commissioning of the Faculty, Staff, and Trustees for their service to the School, and a series of Curriculum Meetings for each class to give parents a brief overview of the curriculum, including Everyday Mathematics, ZooPhonics, Handwriting Without Tears, Words Their Way, RAZ Kids, Spelling City, Osmo, Dot and Dash, Lego Mindstorm Coding and Robotics, and Greek and Latin Roots.
This year, all of these activities will take on a special significance for me personally because each will be my last at St. Stephen’s Episcopal School. I announced to the School community in April that I would be retiring at the end of the 2017-2018 school year to spend more time with my family. I am beginning my sixth year at the School, and each of them has brought such special memories of being present to witness not only the growth of individual children but the expansion of SSES programs and the student body. This is a wonderful time for a new leader to be called to serve this beautiful community, bringing new ideas, new approaches, and renewed enthusiasm for the next chapter of the School’s history.
With my announcement, the Board of Trustees began the process of securing a new Head of School who will begin on July 1, 2018. The consulting team of the Rev. David Madison, D.Min., J.D., Executive Director of the Southwestern Association of Episcopal Schools and Laura Colangelo, BA & M.Ed, Executive Director of the Texas Private Schools Association will guide a Head Search Committee in conducting a successful search process and leadership transition. This process is off to a tremendous start and the Head of School Opportunity Statement can be found under the Employment Opportunities tab on the website. The Statement will give you a picture of all of the great things that lie ahead for St. Stephen’s Episcopal School.
Our students truly work hard and play hard, and our Faculty and Staff join right in. Please come see for yourself – St. Stephen’s Episcopal School will always put out the welcome mat for you!
